JetBlue

March 6, 2025 — JetBlue press release

JetBlue, in partnership with the Port Authority and Fraport USA, announced a sweeping refresh of Terminal 5. The $300 million program will add over 40 new dining and retail concessions, improve circulation, and create more community spaces. Renderings show modernized concourses with high ceilings, new lounges, and upgraded rest areas.

For travelers, the refresh means more food and shopping options, improved amenities, and better passenger flow through one of JFK’s most popular terminals. The upgrades are timed to coincide with the redevelopment of Terminal 6, which will link directly to T5.

United Airlines announced it will return to JFK service in 2027, using slots leased through a partnership with JetBlue. United last served JFK in 2022 before pulling back due to slot constraints and competitive pressures.

The move restores United’s presence in New York’s largest international gateway. Up to seven daily round-trips are planned, reintroducing more competition on transcontinental routes like JFK–LAX and JFK–SFO. Travelers will gain more choice, while JetBlue benefits financially from leasing underused slots.

outlines plan to manage JFK traffic

June 2025 — Port Authority press release

The Port Authority released a summer traffic management plan for JFK, aimed at easing congestion as construction accelerates. Measures include new staging areas for rideshare and taxis, improved signage, and curbside adjustments to better distribute vehicles.

For passengers, the changes are designed to shorten pickup times and reduce confusion at busy curbs. Officials urged travelers to use the AirTrain where possible, and reminded the public that major roadways will be reconfigured during the multi-year redevelopment.

Expanded truck parking plaza

August 5, 2025 — Port Authority press release

Officials broke ground on an expanded truck parking plaza at JFK to help improve cargo flows. The facility will provide more staging space for freight haulers, reducing bottlenecks on local streets and enhancing efficiency for shippers.

The project is part of the airport’s cargo modernization program. JFK remains the busiest U.S. airport for international air freight, and demand for efficient trucking has grown with e‑commerce and pharmaceuticals shipments. The larger plaza is expected to cut delays and support thousands of jobs tied to the cargo sector.

New Terminal One

July 23, 2025 — NTO press release

The New Terminal One consortium closed a $1.367 billion green bond issuance to fund construction of its Phase A terminal. This financing builds on a prior $2.55 billion bond deal and will allow the first gates of NTO to open on schedule in 2026.

The bonds were certified as “green” due to the terminal’s focus on sustainable design, including all-electric ground systems, efficient energy use, and LEED certification. Travelers can expect a state-of-the-art terminal that meets modern sustainability standards while expanding JFK’s international capacity.

Terminal 6 updates

August 11, 2025 — Port Authority press release

The Port Authority and JFK Millennium Partners announced cultural institution partnerships for Terminal 6. Exhibits, public art, and rotating displays will be integrated into the $4.2 billion facility, bringing a “sense of New York” to travelers.

The program builds on lessons from other airports where art has improved the passenger experience. With T6 set to open its first gates in 2026, travelers will see a terminal designed not just for efficiency but also to reflect New York’s identity.

Terminal 6 to debut

September 15, 2025 — JFK Millennium Partners press release

In September, JFK Millennium Partners confirmed Terminal 6 will launch with a pooled fleet of electric ground-support equipment (GSE). This marks one of the largest zero-emission GSE deployments at a U.S. airport.

The investment supports New York’s climate goals and will reduce emissions on the airfield. For passengers, it means quieter operations and cleaner air around boarding gates. For airlines, the shared fleet lowers costs and promotes sustainability.
